Ways to help

Robotics Competition Team Volunteer

Every team needs a leader but they also benefit from technical mentors such as engineers, programmers, and challenge-specific professionals. Non-technical mentors can help organize food, team attire, and travel. Visit our Run a Team page to find out how to start a team or contact the FIRST Robotics Competition Michigan Director to mentor an existing team. Training sessions, workshops, and a supportive FIRST community are available to help get new coaches/mentors up to speed. The scope of the roles is at the discretion of the coaches.

How you help High School FIRST Robotics teams are part of a rich culture of young innovators, guided by coaches and mentors, who tackle real-world challenges with ingenuity, integrity, and a sense of fun. We’re excited to have you on our team!
About us Geared for high school students, the FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of a varsity sport with the real world experience of building a robot. Teams produce a commercial product that is designed, machined, programmed, and marketed to win. Along the way, students sample a variety of STEM fields to see where their true passion lies. Working side by side with industry mentors, FIRST gives students on-the-job experience and the chance to build skills not possible in a traditional classroom setting.
