Mentor

Children in foster care experience an unique set of difficulties throughout their lives. From neglect and abuse to challenges finding employment and stable housing, many foster youth lack the support and resources that’s needed to successfully transition them out of the foster care system. Mentors help support these children. Mentors make a one-year commitment to up to four students and communicate with them a minimum of one time per week via phone, text, Skype, email, or social media. Generally they dedicate one to three hours a week to their student(s). Mentors must be 25 or older, pass a background check, complete an application and interview, participate in online training, attend monthly conference calls, and submit online reports twice a month.

About us Urban Unity is a non-profit with a mission to create a safe haven, safety, net, and wrap-around support for families and children experiencing foster care. Our programs are centered around evidence-based practices and research-driven interventions. Our focal practices are but not limited to trauma-informed care, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques which encourages and support our participants to overcome their challenges and meet their goals.
