To tell the story of Muskegon County by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of its people and natural environment.

We aim high and wide with a core mission of transforming lives by creating community, connecting people and spreading joy. We focus on three areas: entertainment, education and engagement.

The Steam Railroading Institute is dedicated to educate the public about steam era railroading in Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. This includes the preservation of the skills and technology for maintaining steam locomotives by operating steam era equipment and providing the experience of steam locomotives in actual operation.

Volunteers and staff welcome members and the public to appreciate and experience Great Lakes maritime history in a unique, exciting and thought provoking manner.

Our mission is that through mutual love and respect, we teach people to be faithful caretakers of one another and the world around us.
