Ways to help

Volunteer at the Wishbone House

Volunteer to help out at the Wishbone House thrift shop and cage-free cat petting rooms. Help us put on our low-cost spay and neuter clinic at Wishbone House. Assist with adoption events and fundraisers in the community. Volunteers also help out in the Pet food pantry. Those handling animals must be 18 years and older, however, we have many other opportunities for younger people including for students in need of service hours.

Foster

Our foster program allows our highly adoptable cats and dogs to be housed for longer periods than practical within the shelter while they await forever homes. We are looking for people who can provide a positive experience for the pet and are willing to participate in their development and adoption. We cover all medical expenses for our pets while in foster care, however, foster families are expected to provide a nutritional diet.

How you help Our greatest wish is to provide hope and alternatives for abused and abandoned animals, and to greatly reduce the number of future cases. With support from animal lovers like you, we know we can succeed.
About us At the shelter, located north of downtown Allegan, we care for 3,000-plus animals a year. We often refer to this part of our rescue work as the Animal Shelter Alliance Project (ASAP). Since then, we’ve expanded hours and programs and greatly increased the survival rate for animals who enter the shelter. Our goal is to reach 100 percent survival and rehoming.
