Our mission

The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy promotes healthy ecosystems and communities by providing permanent legal protection and ecological management of conservation lands and by engaging the public in the protection and enjoyment of these lands.

Items we need

What is one acre of land worth?

We’re talking about how it feels to hike your favorite trail through the woods that you return to every season. We’re talking about breathing clean air imbued with the scent of the cedar, and feeling white pine needles brush against your arms as you step out onto the shore of the lake. What is that experience worth to you?

It costs UPLC about $30 to protect each acre per year, to ensure that the experience of hiking around a sphagnum bog and feeling hundreds of years of moss under your feet will be available for coming generations. It’s time to ask yourself right now what each of the 6,264 acres that UPLC protects are worth to you and adopt an acre for 2021 today.

What you get in return

For each acre you adopt, we’ll pinpoint the acre(s) that you are (symbolically) responsible for, and add them to this map for the whole year. We’ll also send you a certificate that names you as the honorary Protector of the Land and indicates the exact coordinates of the acre(s) you help protect. If you’d like to give in honor of someone or give anonymously, you can either give us specific directions in the “notes” section when you donate at the link below or send an email to [email protected] with your request.

About us

The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy envisions a future where residents and visitors enjoy clean waters, abundant wildlife, inspiring scenery, working lands, and a thriving economy. We see a future where our community values and supports UPLC as a vital institution that protects and contributes to the quality of life in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We will be an integral link between a healthy ecosystem and a healthy community as we prepare the land for changes such as those due to global climate change and shifting demographics. The U.P. Land Conservancy will prepare for and meet these changes with a broad base of support and the financial independence to fulfill the commitments we have made.
