Opportunities

Take a Shift

Volunteers staff our House from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. We have four different shifts of volunteers: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.; 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.; 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.; 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and are responsible to volunteer as scheduled. Volunteer duties are varied — depending on the day of the week, time of day, occupancy rate and number of families.

Various Opportunities

Greet and welcome families and visitors to the House. Register families into our House. Answer phone calls. Handle calls from hospital personnel, families and visitors. Assist with mailings. Write ‘Thank You’ letters to donors. Assist with clerical or data entry work. Help keep kitchen and public areas well organized. Assist volunteer groups with the evening meal preparation and cleanup. Basic household chores.

Helping Hands Service Days

For folks who are looking to serve with a group or organization, a Helping Hands Service Day is wonderful way to lend a hand. From yard work to spring cleaning, teams of 10 or less work together for 2 hours to get the job done.

How you help

Each year, more than 1,500 volunteers and 6,000 volunteer hours are needed to assist with events and help at the house. The Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan is able to serve hundreds of families each year through the generously of communities, organizations, businesses, individuals and volunteers. Your support will help us provide a caring, loving home-away-from-home for the hundreds of families who visit Lansing to seek the very best medical treatments for their ill children.
About us

Too often, parents of ill children are forced to sleep in waiting rooms or cramped hospital rooms, bathe in public restroom sinks and eat out of vending machines while their child is hospitalized. To help these parents, community leaders, healthcare professionals and advocates in Lansing, Mich. dreamed of opening a place these families could call their home-away-from-home. In June 2000, after years of research, planning, fundraising and designing, the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan opened their doors to families, partners and donors in Greater Lansing. Our House provides families with a place they can have home-cooked meals, a place for siblings to play and a comfortable space to sleep close to the hospital room where they spend countless hours with a sick child. Conveniently located across from Sparrow Hospital, families are able to stay close to their children while they are healing.
