Our mission	We help adults change their lives through literacy.

Opportunities	Mentor A Washtenaw Literacy mentor is a dedicated volunteer who has tutored for at least one year and has decided they would like to help support other tutors. There are three areas the mentors assist staff: traditional mentoring, workshops, and events. Occasional, Monthly 55+, Adults Individuals Event support, Indoor Formal, Skilled Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Office Work Office work volunteers enjoy copying, compiling, organizing, data entry, document shredding, training prep, or answering the phone. Weekly, Monthly 55+, Adults Individuals Office work On-site Weekdays Spread the Word Become an ambassador for Washtenaw Literacy: organize a volunteer orientation at your place of worship, your book club, service organization or workplace. Share information about volunteering and literacy issues at your favorite business or health club. Occasional 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor On-site, Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Basic Literacy Tutor Help an individual or small cluster of learners with reading, writing, math, or other basic life skills (computer literacy, financial literacy, etc). Weekly 55+, Adults Individuals, Groups (2-10) Virtual On-site, Formal Weekdays English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor Help small clusters or groups of ESL learners with speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural understanding. Weekly 55+, Adults Individuals, Groups (2-10) Virtual On-site, Skilled Weekdays

About us	Washtenaw Literacy was founded in 1971 by a small group of volunteers who wanted to help other adults learn to read. Today, our organization has grown to serve over 1,500 adults each year in our one-on-one and group tutoring programs. We remain the only organization in Washtenaw county that provides free, customized one-on-one tutoring to adults in reading and writing or English as a second language.
