About us | The Marquette-Alger Young Authors’ Conference began with an idea to build literacy and authorship within our community. It started with a handful of educators and 347 first through sixth grade children. Over the past 39 years, the conference has grown to include 13 schools and about 3,000 children, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The conference takes place over four days each May at Northern Michigan University, but literacy activities extend throughout the whole school year. The activities involve reading, researching, writing, illustrating, sharing, and finally publishing a book as a culminating project. |
