Our mission

To help Flint continue to recover from the effects of the Flint Water Crisis and the impact on its neighborhoods through building community partnerships and increasing resident access to nutrition, health, crime prevention, and early education resources.

What we do

Flint Urban Safety & Health Corps, an AmeriCorps program, recruits talented leaders into paid public service, where they directly support local organizations and residents through recovery-focused programming.

How you help

As a service member, you’ll connect community members with resources related to water crisis recovery. Depending on your host site, FUSHC members do the following:

  • Nutrition & Food Access
  • Behavioral Health & Medical Management
  • Crime Prevention & Neighborhood Safety
  • Early Education
About us

The Flint Water Crisis looms large in our community. In its aftermath, many Flint residents are still grappling with the continuing, or unknown physical, emotional, and psychological effects of contaminated drinking water. In addition to the direct effects of the water crisis, the problems of lead poisoning, population loss, and blight have resulted in patchwork neighborhoods and thus increased opportunities for crime.

While the situation can be sobering, the way forward is clear. Flint residents need access to services and information focused on crime prevention, blight clean up, nutritional support, early education, behavioral and developmental health services, and management of their medical future. Flint Urban Safety and Health Corps (FUSHC) was formed to reduce crime, increase overall health all while engaging community residents to improve neighborhoods.
