Ways to help

Tutor

Volunteer tutors are the heart of the Dominican Literacy Center. After attending an Orientation or the Tutor Training Workshop, tutors are matched with an adult learner whose interests and schedules are compatible. New Tutor Orientation is required for all new tutors before they are matched with a student. Tutor orientations will be held every 4th Tuesday of the month, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To be certified in the Laubach method a volunteer attends the Tutor Training Workshop in February, May, or October. This workshop is required for all tutors. Tutoring is offered on-site at the Dominican Literacy Center Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am – 8:00 pm and Friday and Saturday, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.
