Community Organizing at People’s Water Board

0 Reviews
Our mission Mercy Volunteers enter into relationship with people who are economically poor and marginalized. In a spirit of mutuality, volunteers cultivate mercy and justice in the world by embracing compassionate service, social justice, spirituality, and a simple lifestyle in community.
Our board Quarterly retreats are hosted by Mercy Volunteer Corps to provide volunteers with opportunities for reflection, spiritual growth, and shared experiences. Throughout the service, Mercy Volunteer Corps provides volunteers with webinars for personal and professional development.
Position The People’s Water Board (PWB) is a grass-roots coalition of thirty Southeast Michigan organizations (anti-poverty, social justice, environmental, conservation, faith-based) working together to protect our water from pollution, high water rates, privatization, and the denial of water and sanitation services to people unable to afford it. Founded in 2008 by the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization (MWRO), PWB works collectively with Michigan community-based groups and national coalitions to advocate for policies and programs to ensure clean and affordable water for all residents—regardless of ability to pay. A Mercy Volunteer is needed as a Services Coordinator to organize community forums, press conferences, monthly PWB meetings, presentations, demonstrations, and legislative visits. The volunteer will also manage the social media and represent PWB to the community. Additionally, the volunteer will support residents to access clean and affordable water.
