Ways to help

General Volunteer Nights

During volunteer nights, volunteers help us maintain our space by sorting donations, building bikes for our Youth Give-a-Way program, cleaning the space and general upkeep of our warehouse. General Volunteers work in the shop on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5-8pm.

All Ages Volunteer Night

This night is a fantastic opportunity for families to bond, youth to meet each other, and future Mechanics in Training to get their feet wet. Youth are also given the opportunity to volunteer and learn skills right alongside adults, a unique opportunity! Youth who are not with an adult need to be ready to leave when the program ends (8pm). If they will be getting a ride, this is when it has to be here. If you are comfortable with your child riding/walking/busing themselves home after the program, please put that on the permission slip.

How you help There are a number of ways for folks to help out around here. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been working on bikes your whole life, or if you just started riding for the first time two hours ago and find yourself really inspired about getting involved. We’ll teach you what you need to know.
About us Back Alley Bikes and the Hub have continued to thrive and grow. At BAB, we continue to put numerous youth on bicycles, cultivate a fantastic group of volunteers, and throw some pretty awesome fundraisers (if we do say so ourselves). Getting involved at Back Alley Bikes – as students, teachers, customers, donors, participants, and/or volunteers – gives cyclists so many ways to contribute to our mission to develop youth’s bicycling and leadership skills in the city of Detroit.
