How you help

Volunteer for Michigan’s MI Options Program and Make a Difference in your Community

Local agencies contracted with Michigan’s MI Options Program provide Medicare and long-term services and supports counseling to individuals across the state.

These agencies recruit volunteer counselors to provide the counseling services, and MI Options Program trains and certifies the counselors. Counselors receive on-the-job training, support, and guidance. Volunteers have the option to provide the services in‑person, by telephone, or via videoconference.

Counselors meet with beneficiaries, family members and/or caregivers during counseling sessions. Beneficiaries or their loved ones receive the service, regardless of income, assets or disability status.

These trained counselors help with Medicare counseling services such as enrollment, reviewing explanations of benefits, assisting with applications for low-income assistance, and so much more. Counselors also assist individuals in identifying their long-term services and supports needs.

Volunteer counselors provide a crucial service to their fellow residents, families, and caregivers.
