Mission: To promote, protect, and improve the health, wellness, and self-sufficiency of all Michigan residents.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is the state agency responsible for managing a wide range of health and social services programs aimed at improving the well-being of Michigan residents. MDHHS oversees services related to public health, mental health, social services, child welfare, and aging, among others. It plays a vital role in supporting individuals, families, and communities throughout Michigan by promoting health, safety, and self-sufficiency.

[agency_mission] =>

MDHHS offers a wide range of programs to support Michigan residents:

  • Public Health: Promotes health through disease prevention, emergency preparedness, vaccinations, and public education on topics like nutrition and chronic disease.
  • Health Care Services: Administers Medicaid, CHIP, mental health, and substance use programs, ensuring access to affordable care for low-income individuals and families.
  • Social Services: Provides financial assistance through programs like SNAP, TANF, and LIHEAP, along with support for seniors and people with disabilities.
  • Child Welfare: Protects children and strengthens families with services such as foster care, adoption, child protection, and child support enforcement.
  • Mental Health: Offers community-based mental health care, substance use treatment, and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Aging Services: Supports older adults and individuals with disabilities through long-term care, caregiver assistance, and resources for independent living.

One of our main volunteer initiatives is that we provide volunteer transportation for Medicaid eligible residents of Missaukee and Wexford Counties to non-emergency medical appointments. Mileage reimbursement is available for volunteers.
