| About us | Founded as Leukemia, Research, Life (LRL) in 1981 and renamed Kids Without Cancer in 2011, this remarkable organization has, for the past 45 years, been raising money to fund the pediatric cancer research being conducted at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and its affiliates Wayne State University and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. In fact, this organization is proud to be the largest contributor of funds to pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital of all charities solely dedicated to funding cancer research. The organization was founded by a small group of concerned parents with one thing in common: they had children in cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. At that time only about 50% of kids diagnosed with cancer would survive. Thanks to research the survival rates for many childhood cancers have improved dramatically. Back in 1981 half of all kids diagnosed with cancer would die from the disease. Today the average survival rate is nearly 80%. We have come a long way but there is still a lot of work to be done. We will not rest until a cure is found. |
