We provide nourishing meals to those facing a health crisis while empowering the next generation.

Opportunities

Deliver Healthy Meals

Deliver nutritious, delicious and beautiful meals to families and individuals affected by life-altering illnesses like cancer, diabetes and heart diseases.

Delivery Volunteers pick up the meal bags at our kitchen on Wednesdays at 6:00pm and deliver them to 2-4 homes in one area of greater Grand Rapids. Total time to complete this task 45-90 minutes.

Must be 18 to drive, but families are welcome to volunteer together!

Delivery Driver - Our Greatest Need!

Deliver nourishing meals to our clients who are facing serious illnesses. Provide a friendly face and moments of connection with people facing health challenges in our community.

Delivery drivers pick up the meal bags at our kitchen on Wednesdays between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and deliver them to two to four homes in greater Grand Rapids.

There is no long-term commitment. Delivery drivers must be at least 18 years old, have an unrestricted driver’s license, and have a reliable vehicle.

Food Prep

Join adult volunteers in the kitchen to help wash, prepare whole foods for cooking and make broths so the teens can start cooking meals when they arrive. Weekly on Tuesday: 11 – 3:30

Teen Chef Program

Teenagers often make their own food choices yet face several barriers in achieving healthy food habits. Teens who are involved with cooking and nutritional education discover that healthy food can be nourishing, tasty and easy to prepare, while also learning about the powerful relationship between food and health. The Revive and Thrive model of service elevates teens from learners to nurturing leaders; a position that provides leadership lessons and esteem-building experiences that can benefit all aspects of their life.

You’ll have the opportunity to have fun cooking with other teens while helping people fighting severe illness. With the guidance of adult mentor chefs, you’ll learn to prepare, cook, and package meals.

No experience is necessary to join our Teen Chef program. We request a minimum of a 12-week volunteer commitment.

Teen Volunteering takes place each Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. In the summer months: We meet on Wednesdays from 10 am – 2:30 pm.

We ask that our teens are at least in 8th grade and between the ages of 14 and 19.

Client Liaison

If you have counseling, hospice training, or personal experience with life-threatening illness, being a Client Liaison is a wonderful way to contribute. The Client Liaison volunteer maintains regular weekly contact with our clients to check in and communicate any changes in the food program to the Client Coordinator. Approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Adult Mentor Chef

If you have whole food cooking experience, we’d love to have you join us as an adult mentor chef! You must love working with young people and have a sense of humor. Weekly on Wednesday: 11:00 – 4:00

Photographer - Special Project

Help us tell our story in photos! We are in need of a photographer or photographer intern to help us take photos, develop a slideshow so we can showcase our program in the community.

Packaging

Nutrition Education Support

Help us develop 1-page nutrition education handouts and materials for our participants. Collect various nutrition education community class information to pass on to our participants.

Administrative Assistant

How you help

Revive & Thrive has volunteer opportunities for teens and adults of all ages!

Teens between the ages of 14-18 and in grades 9-12 are welcome to participate in our teen chef program. Adults of all ages are welcome to participate in our kitchen, meal packaging, and delivery driver volunteer opportunities.

No experience is necessary to get involved. Most volunteer shifts require volunteers to be active for 3 hours without significant breaks and to work in a fast-paced environment. Volunteers must be able to follow health and safety guidelines for food handling and follow directions.

While we do not currently have volunteer opportunities for children, families of all shapes and sizes are welcome to deliver meals together as long as an adult over 18 with a valid driver’s license takes the lead.
