Our mission

Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry is a 501(c)3, client-choice, food pantry, “Ensuring No One Goes Hungry” in the communities we serve. We partner with Gleaners, Forgotten Harvest, local food distributors, and community food drives to stock our shelves and serve those in need. Located in an 8,000 square-foot facility, our volunteer staffed pantry currently serves residents of Allen Park, Brownstown Township, Dearborn Heights, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor, and Woodhaven.

Opportunities

Host a Food Drive for Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry

Fish & Loaves is a non-profit organization serving Downriver and Wayne County with our client choice pantry. Our pantry serves over 30,000 households each year. To lower our food costs, we welcome businesses, churches, school groups, and other organizations to host community food drives.

  • Select a time frame and location for the food drive that works for your schedule.
  • Contact Fish & Loaves Operation Manager, Bob Cooper, at 734-992-6285 or [email protected]. Bob will provide you with a list of pantry needs. We can also provide boxes if needed.
  • Advertise your food drive with flyers, social media, and word of mouth. Fish & Loaves will also share your food drive on social media.
  • Collect food!
  • Once the drive is over, contact the pantry to schedule a delivery time at Fish & Loaves or for assistance with food pick up.
  • Most of all have fun with the food drive knowing that you are helping your neighbors. The need is great. Your help is appreciated.

Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry Warehouse Volunteer

Dedicated volunteers are needed on a weekly basis to support our warehouse operations and help us distribute food to our neighbors who need it.

Responsibilities include:

  • Unloading trucks
  • Sorting and packing orders
  • Stocking shelves
  • Inventory
  • The volunteer must have the capacity to lift and carry 15-20 pounds.
  • We are looking for individuals who would like to commit to a long term volunteer position. Our regular volunteers work one 3-4 hour shift each week. This is a great opportunity for retirees or other folks with availability during week days.

There are several shifts available:

Monday: 7am-11am or 1pm-4pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 7am-11am or 12pm-3pm

How you help

Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry is a volunteer organization. More than three hundred volunteers from area churches, community organizations, and businesses serve without compensation, apart from the pleasure and pride in knowing that they are making a difference in their local communities. There are hands-on volunteer opportunities at Fish & Loaves for almost all ages in our Pantry, warehouse, and intake office.

Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry is a non-profit organization which provides food assistance to families and individuals. As a client-choice facility, Fish & Loaves allows families and individuals to shop six times per year in an attractive setting organized like a grocery store. A wide range of canned goods, refrigerated and frozen foods, dairy products, and seasonal produce are offered at no cost to clients. Our client-choice model affirms the dignity of the families and individuals we serve.
