The PROACTIVE Project Inc

To ensure that all persons in pretrial situations, individuals about to be released from prison, and those formerly incarcerated, along with their families, have the opportunity and knowledge they need to exercise their right to vote.

The goal of our community outreach is to inform people with felony convictions and/or on parole, that they have the right to vote, and enabling them to exercise that right.

Our outreach is intended to inform people

• of the importance of voting in every election
• where they can learn more about the issues and candidates on their ballots
• how they can register to vote and get an absentee ballot
• how they can vote

VAAC has several opportunities, large and small, based on the availability, skills and interests of volunteers.  Some can be done from home, others out in the community. We are a state-wide organization, with volunteers in many communities, and looking to grow further.

We are a coalition of individuals and organizations — representing those who have been incarcerated and those who have not — who feel voting is empowering and powerful. We know that any barrier to voting – whether it be logistical, informational, or lack of trust in the process – is voter suppression that we must confront.
