Our mission

It is our responsibility to provide food, shelter, socialization, humane care and Veterinary treatment for abandoned and relinquished, adoptable animals until a permanent, loving home can be found. It is our mission to ensure all animals are spayed or neutered before adoption.

Cat Socializing

Cat socializing is important to the cats health. A happy healthy cat is our mission while they are at the shelter. Come spend time brushing and petting cats or simply playing with toys. They love the attention. This could even benefit your own health.

Adoption Assistant and More

Help animals get adopted. Assist potential adopter in finding a new best friend. Bring your skills to Homeward Bound. We are looking for a volunteer to be the volunteer coordinator. There are many ways to help Homeward Bound. Please visit us and find out how you can be apart of the volunteer team.

Front Desk Help

During our adoption hours, we always need help at the front desk to answer phones, adoption paperwork, data entry and more. If you are interested in being involved with these tasks, please visit our shelter to fill out the volunteer application.

Kennel Attendants

Everyday, our team of volunteers and staff clean kennels or cages and feed the animals. We begin cleaning at 9 am to 12 pm. If you are able to be apart of this team, sign up to be a kennel attendant team member

Dog Walking

It is very important that all dogs are walked everyday and have time in the yards to run off energy and get some play time. Volunteer some of your time to walk and socialize with dogs.

Events

About us

Homeward Bound Animal Shelter is a 501(c) non profit, no-kill shelter located in Manistee County. The shelter is governed by the Manistee County Humane Society which was formed in the late 1970’s by a group of citizens dedicated to helping the lives of homeless or abandoned animals. In April of 2005 the dream of opening a shelter came true and since that time has helped thousands of animals find new homes. While at the shelter each animal is vaccinated, spayed/neutered and receives loving care. We rely on donations, memberships, fundraising and grants for our operating revenue.
